Dora and more swimming

Had
our friends the Priesters down last weekend - Cory,
Sharyl, Anthony (7) and Alyssa (4). Oh my goodess -
even though the adults outnumbered the kids, I was
still wiped out! I think this confirms my belief that
I am MomOfOne.
The kids spent a ton of time in the pool (as is evidenced by the pictures now posted) and we went to see Dora Live! which was actually a lot of fun, Katie had a BLAST. Bought her a little stuffed Dora and that’s now her favorite toy (heaven forbid we go to bed without her ... in fact, the other morning, laying in bed, I can hear Katie wake up and then she says “Wake up, Do-wa!” Pretty funny.)
Katie’s vocabulary continues to expand and she’s become a bit power drunk - she definitely realizes that when she asks someone to do something, they’ll do it, and that thrills her to no end. So she now gets a say in what she wears, which sippy cup she uses, and other things. And, the other day, while video conferencing with Grandma and Grandpa, Katie told Grandpa “You bounce! You do it!” ... and of course, Grandpa being Grandpa, he did.
Well, what else is new ... been looking at houses again and might actually pull the trigger this time. Of course, now that this is in writing, we’ll probably suffer analysis paralysis and not do anything about it. Found a cool custom home neighborhood that we MIGHT be able to swing ... but gotta talk to the architect and see if we’re totally off base. We’ll see.
I’m off to Arizona in two weeks ... yes, Phoenix in August, doesn’t that sound grand?!? And, it looks like I’ll get to go back again in September, as the feds are auditing our Medicare Part D program yet again, oh joy. But I think my team has settled in for a bit - we’ve had some changes - and can start getting on with the things they need to get on with.
And, of course ... football is mere weeks away. Hallelujah!!

Katie the Boss Lady

Katie
has gotten bossy.
"Come on, Mama!"
"Go there, Mama!"
"Sit, Mama!"
I think she just enjoys the fact that she can say something and others understand her, and will do what she asks (OK, demands). Her vocabulary continues to grow and I continue to be amazed at how seemingly smart she is (yes, I know, as Mama I am biased). But while in New Mexico, Katie loved the elevators. I'd tell her to push the button next to the three ... and she would. Tell her to push the button next to the one ... she would. She'll point at various things and yell "Pink!" or "Red!" or whatever color it happens to be ... all I can say is thank goodness for the internet; when she hits 4th grade and is doing calculus I'm gonna need some help.
Landon's birthday party was a lot of fun - Landon is a day care chum and you can find his picture in more than a few places on our web site (he's a cutie - for a while he'd give me kisses when I'd come in to get Katie, but he stopped
). Landon's mommy rented a bounce
house and BOY did the kids have fun with that,
although we had to keep pulling Katie out to try
to get her to drink some H20, as it was pretty
hot outside and her little cheeks got SO red.
But they had a BLAST.
The following weekend we went to Austin to see Grandma Betty Jo and Dr. Jim in Austin - we had to pick Katie up at day care during nap time, and she was sacked out on her little mat ... next to Landon.
'twas pretty funny ... curls
sticking out of one end and pink hi-topped chuck
taylors sticking out of the other. We had a
great visit with Grandma BJ & Dr J, who have
a new puppy, Annie, who is very sweet - but it's
definite, Katie's allergic. Even just sitting on
Grandma's lap after the dog had been there and
Katie would get blotchy. Oh well - Katie was a
little nervous about the dog anyway. Also got to
see most of the aunts and cousins, too, which is
always fun - since we don't see the kids very
often it's amazing how much they grow up from
visit to visit.
Also did our company picnic, albeit briefly - a catered affair indoors, but most of the kiddo events were outdoors - in 100+ degree heat. No thanks.
And instead of Gulf Shores for July 4, we went to a resort near Albuquerque, NM called Tamaya - it was beautiful and the weather was gorgeous. Skip wanted to get some golf in but did not - it rained and then we ran out of time. But the scenery was grand and all in all we had a good time. Katie continues to be a GREAT traveler on these long trips - she didn't really act up in the car although we did get repeated requests for Elmo, of course. Dining out with Katie has become our biggest challenge - shoot, even eating at home - she no longer wants to sit in her booster or in a high chair but on a big people chair. Which is fine for the first five seconds, then she decides she's done and takes off. Which of course is not a huge deal at home ... but out it's something else entirely.
Well, tis all for now. Happy Summer!
