Travels and swim lessons

Well, it's been a busy few weeks! Quick trip to Arizona to meet with the team out there, along with a meeting with our Compliance Officer where she reminded us of the, ah, challenges of doing business with the feds. All I could think was, "Orange ain't really my color!" I understand why they do that - doing business with the federal gov't does have a lot more rules, restrictions ... and by association, harsher consequences if you don't follow the rules. But hearing about how other industries have gone to court, had individual employees taken to trial ... yeesh.

And if that wasn't scary enough, then I had to go to LOVELY Newark, NJ. Home of graffiti, trash, concrete and razor wire - it's BEAUTIFUL. NOT. The client meetings were good, but while I was there tornados blew thru Texas - including a few on Wednesday night when Skip was with Katie at swimming lessons. They no sooner got into the pool before they were told to get out - so Skip gets Katie undressed and they have to hang around the rec center for over an hour until the all clear. And yes, Katie was THRILLED to not be at home and NOT be swimming - she was in total meltdown mode the whole time; Skip was trying to keep her close to trash cans the whole time, as he was waiting for Exorcist Katie to show up and barf all over everything, she was so worked up.

Katie enjoys the pool and swimming lessons, although I think she is a bit of a princess and doesn't really like getting her face wet. Swim lessons at age two are really mostly about blowing bubbles and basic survival type skills (hanging off of the wall). Katie will NOT blow bubbles - she'll start to blow air out of her mouth and when I lower her into the water she gets this HUMONGOUS giggle fit. We "submerged" for the first time last Wednesday and oh she did NOT like that - lots of tears. We were supposed to try again, but then Katie was just saying "Out? Out?" all the time so I figured it wasn't worth trying to get her to go again.

We are taking swim lessons with my friend Debbie and her little boy, Ace (so named for his initials). Katie likes Ace - in fact, on nights when we do not have lessons, this is what I hear: "Baby Ace? Baby Ace? I wanna swim. Baby Ace? Swimming. Baby Ace? Baby Ace?" You get the picture ...

Actually when I got off the plane from Newark I was struck by how much Katie's language has improved - she' s stringing more and more words together and, yes, she's parroting now (she says "Go away" [thanks Mimi] and she said "Newark sucks!" after I did). She knows most of her colors, some shapes, all of her letters and numbers, and will sometimes break into song at random times which is always pretty cute.

This weekend is errands and a birthday party for Landon (one of Katie's daycare chums). Next weekend, Austin to visit the in laws and then July 4th - I think we are going to try going to AL and MS (Gulf Shores) - some place new and we'll get to cross two more states off of the list!!

That's all for now - no new pics but probably will get some in the coming weeks. TTFN.
